Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the general anatomy of the hip, including the bony structure of the pelvis and its key landmarks,

  • Demonstrate the location of and action of each of the following hip muscle groups: deep hip flexors, superficial hip flexors, adductors, hamstrings, gluteals, deep six lateral rotators,

  • Describe why bending the knees can help the spine to find neutral curves in a forward fold,

  • Given a hip muscle group, describe at least three asana where those muscles are actively shortening or stretching,

  • Describe your relationship to your pelvis and hips, and list three ways in which you may support its health.
